What's Real Food?
Good question! A lot of people today think that eating healthy looks a lot like.....
Breakfast: Fiber One cereal with some milk and a glass of orange juice.
Lunch: Having a turkey sandwich with cheese maybe a few tomatoes, mayo and some mustard with a bag of chips.
Snack: A chocolate chip cookie, a brownie, bowl of goldfish or animal crackers.
Dinner: Angel hair pasta with meat balls (not homemade but store bought) and a dinner roll.
Now lets take a look at breakfast first!
I did a little research and found out about this fiber one cereal. Most people think its healthy right! I mean the name leads you to think FIBER. Well I'm going to break it to you cereal lovers, fiber one cereal contains 43 grams of carbs! Which by the way break down into sugar pretty quick in your blood stream so your really getting 10 TSP. of SUGAR in one serving (a serving being 1 cup).
Well you must be wondering, "It must have some fiber in it, right?' Well it only has 3 grams of fiber per serving. So really I think they should rename there cereal............
Sugar One.
So in one serving of just plain dry cereal thats how much sugar you get. Add the pasteurized milk and the juice in there and your getting more like 17.5 TSP. of SUGAR in your morning. That is one serving of cereal.
Ok lets take a look at........
Lunch: Sandwich with turkey, cheese, mayo, mustard and a bag of chips. Two slices of plain white bread 34 grams of carbs, chips 30 grams of carbs (12 chips). That's 16 TSP. of sugar with your lunch! Plus what you have on your sandwich is processed gluten filled turkey with artificial flavors (code for MSG). We didn't even consider what the turkey was fed when it was being raised! Usually they are fed genetically modified grains, and given antibiotics and hormones.
Now for the snack lets just take a look at a bowl of animal crackers, for 16 animal crackers there is 33 grams of carbs, which is 8.25 TSP. of SUGAR!!!!!!!
For dinner 4 oz. of angel hair pasta has 86 grams of carbs. 1/2 cup of tomato sauce 10 grams of carbs, and a dinner roll 30 grams of carbs. All together that's 31.5 TSP. of SUGAR. The meat balls you eat with that has bread crumbs artificial flavors (MSG) and other junk.
So in one day you ate 73.25 TSP. of SUGAR!!!!!! I didn't even mention the dessert! That is a lot of sugar.
No wonder so many people are struggling with loosing weight! Now that we covered the "FAKE FOOD" lets move on to what Real Food is. Real food is the food that God intended for us to eat. So an apple = real food. Apple juice = fake food.
God knew what he was doing when he made us and when he made the vegetation and plants for us to enjoy and eat. So this is what a "Real Food" day could look like for you.
Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled, cooked in coconut oil, sea salt and pepper with a glass of WATER.
Lunch: A piece of fish or chicken, with a yummy vegetable salad. Organic lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, raw walnuts and/or raw sunflower seeds.
Dressing: 1/2 cup raw apple cider vinegar, 1 clove of garlic minced, 1/4 cup water, tbsp. dijon mustard, basil, oregano, salt, pepper and 1/4 olive oil.
Snack: Trail mix, raw sliced almonds, raw sunflower seeds, raw walnuts, dried apple pieces, raisins, 70% dark chocolate pieces and cinnamon.
Dinner: Grass-fed beef steak, mashed faux-tatos (I'll post the recipe) and some steamed broccoli.
I will be writing a lot more about the importance of real food in my future posts and will also be posting many recipes that I have created!
